SCUBA/SPEARFISHING - Spearfishing season for game fish is open from June 15 until March 15, sunrise to sunset, in Lakes Beaver, Blue Mountain, Bull Shoals, Catherine, Conway, DeGray, Erling, Greers Ferry, Greeson, Hamilton, Harris Brake, Millwood, Nimrod, Norfork, Ouachita, Table Rock and impoundments created by the locks and dams on the Arkansas River. Spearfishing for smallmouth bass is not permitted on Lake Ouachita.

Spearfishing for largemouth, spotted or smallmouth basses is not allowed in Lakes Beaver, Bull Shoals, Millwood, Norfork and Table Rock.

Spearfishing season for flathead catfish is open from July 15 until March 15.

Buffalo, carp, or drum may be taken by spearfishing all year on any waters mentioned above.

Only catfish and rough fish may be taken from June 15 until March 15, sunrise to sunset, on Gillham, Dierks and DeQueen lakes. On these lakes, flathead catfish can be taken from July 15 until March 15.

When spearfishing, you are limited to one-half the game fish daily limit (or the lesser number nearest one-half when the limit is an odd number). You must abide by length and slot limits. You may not have a spear gun in public waters other than those specified above. You must display a standard diver’s flag and you may not spearfish more than 300 feet from it. You may not clean or dress fish before you finish spearfishing and leave the body of water where the fish were taken.

Norfork (Baxter County) Crappie, black and white, combined daily limit is 15. Any crappie shorter than 10 inches must be returned to the water. Largemouth bass must be 15 inches or longer to keep. Spotted bass must be at least 12-inches long to keep. Smallmouth bass must be at least 15-inches long to keep. Striped and hybrid bass combined daily limit is three. Walleye must be at least 18-inches long to keep. Walleye daily limit is four. Legal to take game fish (except black basses) with spear guns during season.

NT3 $10.00 Nonresident 3-Day Trip Fishing License entitles a nonresident to fish the waters of the state with noncommercial tackle for the 3 day period specified. A nonresident trout permit must also be purchased to retain trout or to fish in certain waters.

NT7 $15.00 Nonresident 7-Day Trip Fishing License entitles a nonresident to fish the waters of the state with noncommercial tackle for the 7 day period specified. A nonresident trout permit must also be purchased to retain trout or to fish in certain waters.

N14 $20.00 Nonresident 14-Day Trip Fishing License entitles a nonresident to fish the waters of the state with noncommercial tackle for the 14 day period specified. A nonresident trout permit must also be purchased to retain trout or to fish in certain waters.

 

Persons under 12 years of age may not operate a boat powered by more than 10 horsepower except under the direct and audible supervision of a parent, guardian, or other person over 17 years old.

CHILDREN under the age of 13 must wear a well-fitting PFD at all times while aboard a boat. The only exceptions are when they are within the enclosed area of a houseboat, cruiser or within the railings of a party barge while the boat is not underway.

WATER SKIERS must wear a Type I, II, III or V PFD. Water-skiing is not allowed from one-half hour after sunset to one-half hour before sunrise. Boats towing water-skiers must have, in addition to the driver, an observer at least 12 years of age or a wide angle convex marine mirror to observe the person being towed.
